# Repeats and waiting

> Repeat blocks, stop repeating, and pause.

## Repeat blocks (loops)

A **loop** runs the same blocks again and again, a set number of times. Search `repeat` in the block list.

**1. Add the repeat block**

Add the repeat block and choose **how many times**.

**2. Put blocks inside it**

Put the blocks you want repeated inside it.

**3. Stop early (optional)**

To stop early, add the block that **stops repeating**. For example, after a **Compare** finds what you were looking for.

> **Example: a countdown**
>
> The bot says **3**, then **2**, then **1**, then **Go!**, with a **Pause** between each one.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Keep loops small. Discord does not like bots that send lots of messages very fast.

## Pause

The **Pause** block waits before the next block runs. Use it to give people a moment to read.

> **Example**
>
> Reply: `Closing this ticket...` → **Pause** → delete the channel

## Show typing

The block that shows the bot is **typing** (search `typing`) makes the "bot is typing..." text appear in the channel for a few seconds, so a slow answer feels natural.

See every block and its settings in [Repeat and wait blocks](/block-library/repeat-and-wait-blocks).
