# Bot settings

> Token, start and restart, syncing commands, behaviour and deleting a bot.

Open **Settings** in the sidebar. These settings are for the bot picked in the bot picker.

## Access token

The **token** is your bot's secret password from the Discord Developer Portal. DogeBot keeps it locked away (encrypted) and never shows it to collaborators.

* **Update token**: paste a new token, for example after you pressed Reset Token on Discord.
* **Rotate token**: change to a fresh token safely.

Only the **owner** of the bot can see or change this.

## Starting and stopping

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Start** | Turns your bot on, so it answers in Discord. |
| **Restart bot** | Turns it off and on again. Try this first if something acts strange. |

The bot status shows if it is online right now.

## Sync Discord commands

If a command does not show up in Discord, use **Sync Discord commands** (or **Force sync commands**). It sends all your commands to Discord again.

## Your bot's profile

* **Username**: your bot's name on Discord. Discord only allows a couple of name changes an hour, and the bot must be online.
* **Bot description**: the "About me" text people see on your bot's profile. New bots start with "Runs on DogeBot. Make your own bot without code at dogebot.net". Change it to anything you like.

## Bot behaviour

**Maintenance mode**: your bot stays online but answers every command with a short private notice that it is being worked on. Use it while you fix or rebuild things.

## Timed events time zone

Pick the default time zone for your timed events.

## Danger zone

**Delete bot** removes the bot and everything in it from DogeBot. You cannot undo it. Only the owner can do this.
