# Common questions and fixes

> Quick answers to the questions people ask most, and step-by-step fixes for the most common problems.

## Quick answers

> **What is DogeBot?**
>
> DogeBot is a no-code bot builder. You make bots for Discord, WhatsApp and Yapin by joining blocks together in the Command Builder and Event Builder, and DogeBot hosts them for you.

> **Do I need to know how to code?**
>
> No. Everything is built with blocks, settings and variables.

> **Which platforms can I build for?**
>
> Discord, WhatsApp and Yapin. Each bot lives on one platform, and the dashboard only shows what works there.

> **Is DogeBot free?**
>
> Yes, there is a free plan. Premium raises the limits and keeps your bot online all the time. Open **Premium** in your bot's dashboard to compare plans.

> **What is the difference between a command and an event?**
>
> A **command** runs when someone types it, like `/ping`. An **event** runs by itself when something happens, like a member joining or a button being clicked.

> **What are variables?**
>
> Words in curly brackets, like `{user_name}`, that DogeBot swaps for real values when the bot replies. Type `{` in any text box to search them all.

## Fix a problem

> **My bot is offline**
>
> **1. Check DogeBot itself**
>
> Open [dogebot.net/status](https://dogebot.net/status). If hosting for your platform isn't green, it's on our side and it will come back by itself.
>
> **2. Press Start**
>
> Free bots switch off after 24 hours with no activity. Open your bot's dashboard and press **Start**. Nothing is lost.
>
> **3. Check the token**
>
> If the dashboard says **Token rejected**, follow the token fix below.

> **Token rejected**
>
> **1. Reset the token**
>
> Open your platform's developer portal (Discord or Yapin), find your bot and reset its token. Copy the new one.
>
> **2. Paste it in DogeBot**
>
> Open your bot's **Settings**, paste the new token and save.
>
> **3. Start the bot**
>
> Press **Start** on the dashboard.

> **My command doesn't show in the / menu**
>
> **1. Save it**
>
> Open the command and press **Save Command**. Unsaved commands are never sent.
>
> **2. Check it's switched on**
>
> In the commands list, make sure its switch is on.
>
> **3. Check the limit**
>
> Discord and Yapin allow up to 100 commands per bot. Switch off ones you don't use.
>
> **4. Reload your app**
>
> Discord can take a moment to update the / menu. Restart the app if it still doesn't show.

> **My command runs but nothing happens**
>
> **1. Open Error Logs**
>
> Open **Error Logs** in your bot's dashboard. It shows every block that failed, with the reason.
>
> **2. Check permissions**
>
> Most failures are missing bot permissions, like Manage roles or Ban members. Give the bot that permission on the platform.
>
> **3. Check the role order**
>
> To change a member's roles, kick, ban or time them out, the bot's role must sit above that member's highest role.

> **A variable shows as text instead of a value**
>
> **1. Check the spelling**
>
> Variables are exact. Type `{` and pick it from the list instead of typing it by hand.
>
> **2. Check where it's used**
>
> Some variables only work in certain places. For example, button variables only work under a button, and event variables only in that event.

> **My changes didn't apply**
>
> Changes only apply after you press **Save Changes** in the bar at the bottom of the page, or **Save Command** in the builder. If you leave without saving, your changes are thrown away.

> **My Card Studio card is a link on Yapin**
>
> Yapin only shows pictures from its approved sites, and bots can't upload pictures there, so cards are sent as a link for now. See [Messages, pictures and emojis](https://docs.dogebot.net/yapin/messages-and-cards.md).
