# Server or Global

> Decide who shares the same box.

Your bot can be in **many Discord servers** at the same time. So when you make a variable, DogeBot asks: should every server have its **own** box, or should **all servers share one** box? This is called the **scope**.

## The two scopes

| Scope | What it means | Example |
| - | - | - |
| **Server Specific** | A different value for every Discord server. | Server A has its own log channel. Server B has a different one. |
| **Global** | One shared value everywhere. | One total of "giveaways run by this bot" counted across all servers. |

On the Database page the scope pill shows **Server** or **Global**.

## Scope and the User type together

The scope works **together** with the type.

* **User** variable + **Server Specific**: every member has their own coins **in each server**. Sam can have 250 coins in Server A and 10 coins in Server B.
* **User** variable + **Global**: every member has **one** coins box that follows them to **every** server your bot is in.

## Which one should I pick?

* Your bot is only in **one** server? It does not really matter. Pick **Server Specific**.
* Your bot is in **many** servers, and each server should have its **own** economy, settings or counters? Pick **Server Specific**.
* You want something to be the **same everywhere**, like a member's global profile? Pick **Global**.

<Info>
  If you are not sure, pick **Server Specific**. It is the safest choice, because one server can never change another server's values.
