# The Database page

> The page where all your saved variables live.

The **Database** page is like a big cupboard. Every custom variable you make is a box on a shelf in this cupboard.

## How to get there

There are two easy ways:

* In the **sidebar** on the left, press **Database**.
* Or press **/** on your keyboard, type `Database` and press Enter.

<Info>
  You do not have to go here to make a variable. You can also make one **inside the builder**, while you build a command. See [Make your first variable](/variables/make-your-first-variable).
</Info>

## The tabs on the Database page

At the top of the page there are tabs. Each tab does one job.

| Tab | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Your variables** | The list of every variable you made. The number next to it tells you how many you have. |
| **What do you want to make?** | Ready-made ideas, like coins or XP. Pick one and DogeBot makes the variables for you. |
| **Start from scratch** | Make your own variable, with your own name and settings. |
| **Look up a member** | Type in a member and see the values saved for that one person, like their coins and level. |
| **Problems** | Shows mistakes, like a command that uses a variable that does not exist. The number turns red when something is wrong. |
| **How to use** | A short help guide right inside DogeBot. |

## Reading the list of variables

Every variable in **Your variables** is one row. A row shows:

* **The gold name chip**, like `{DBVAR_coins}`. **Press it to copy it.** Then paste it into any message.
* **The type pill**, like **Number** or **Text**. This tells you what kind of thing is in the box.
* **The scope pill**, like **Server** or **Global**. This tells you who shares the box.
* **Where it is used**, like "Used in 3 commands and events", or **Not used yet**.
* **What it starts as**, like "starts as 0".

Use the **Search variables** box to find one fast when you have lots.

## Deleting a variable

Deleting a variable throws the box away **and everything inside it**, for everyone. You cannot undo this, so DogeBot checks with you first.

* If **nothing uses it**, DogeBot asks "Delete it? Nothing uses it right now."
* If **something still uses it**, you see **Variable still in use**. It lists every command and event that uses it, because those blocks will stop working. To be sure, you must **type the variable's name** to delete it. If the name does not match, nothing is deleted.

<Warning>
  Before you delete a variable, open the commands and events in the list and change them first.
</Warning>

## WhatsApp numbers

When a WhatsApp number is picked in the bot picker, the Database page shows **WhatsApp ideas** (like customer name, orders, cart and loyalty points) and **Look up a contact** instead of Look up a member. See [WhatsApp bots](/whatsapp-bots).

## Who can see it

If you build your bot with friends ([Collaborators](/your-account/collaborators)):

* **Operators** can **look at** the saved data.
* **Admins** can also **change** the saved data.
* With **Custom** roles you can hide stored data completely.
