# WhatsApp blocks

> Every block you can use in a WhatsApp flow.

Blocks are the steps of your flow. You connect them under the trigger, and the bot does them in order.

In a WhatsApp flow you only see blocks that work on WhatsApp. Discord blocks never show up. WhatsApp button blocks on the board are **WhatsApp green**.

## Sending messages

> **Send a WhatsApp message**
>
> Sends text.
>
> Example: `Hi {wa_name|there}! Thanks for your message.`

> **Ask with buttons**
>
> Sends a message with up to **3 buttons**. Each button runs its own blocks.
>
> Example: buttons **Prices**, **Opening hours** and **Talk to a person**.

> **Choice list**
>
> A list of up to **10** choices to pick from. The choice someone tapped is in `{wa_choice_title}`.

> **Photo, video or file**
>
> Sends a picture, a video or a document.

> **Location**
>
> Sends a pin on the map, like where your shop is.

> **Reaction**
>
> Reacts to the customer's message with an emoji.

> **Approved template**
>
> Sends a template that Meta approved first. This is the **only** way to message someone after the 24-hour window. See [the 24-hour rule](/whatsapp#the-24-hour-rule).

> **Mark as read**
>
> Shows blue ticks on the customer's message.

## Talking to other apps and people

> **Send to an app**
>
> Sends the chat's details, plus any fields you choose, to Zapier, Make or any web address. The app's answer comes back as `{app_reply}`.
>
> Example: send a new enquiry to Zapier, then reply `Thanks! Your ticket is {app_reply}.`

> **Add a row to Google Sheets**
>
> Adds a new row to your Google Sheet every time it runs.
>
> | Setting | What to put |
> | - | - |
> | **Sheet link** | The Web app URL of your sheet's script. |
> | The tab | Optional. The name of the tab to write to, like `Orders`. |
> | **Columns** | One per line, like `Name = {wa_name}`. |
>
> Columns are matched by their heading. Missing headings are added for you. See [Apps and services](/whatsapp/apps-and-services) to set it up.

> **Hand over to a person**
>
> Stops the bot for this chat and puts it in your **Inbox** for a human to answer. See [The Inbox](/whatsapp/the-inbox).

> **Web request**
>
> Sends a request to any web address. For people who know a bit about websites. See [Web requests](/building-with-blocks/web-requests).

## Blocks shared with Discord

These work the same way as in the Discord builders:

| Block | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Checks** | Send the flow down one path or another. See [Checks and paths](/building-with-blocks/checks-and-paths). |
| **Variables** | Save and change values. See [Use variables in blocks](/variables/use-your-variables-in-blocks). |
| **Pause** | Waits before the next block. |
| **Loops** | Repeat blocks. See [Repeats and waiting](/building-with-blocks/repeats-and-waiting). |
| **Web requests** | Talk to other websites. |
| **Replay note** | Writes values into a Replay, to help you find problems. |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Some things are not built yet for WhatsApp: contacts, catalogues and order messages.
