# Bot settings

> Token, start and restart, syncing commands, profile, behaviour and deleting a bot.

Open **Settings** in the sidebar. These settings are for the bot picked in the bot picker.

## Access token

The **token** is your bot's secret password. You got it from the Discord Developer Portal. DogeBot keeps it locked away (encrypted) and never shows it to collaborators.

| Button | When to use it |
| - | - |
| **Update token** | Paste a new token. For example, after you pressed **Reset Token** on Discord. |
| **Rotate token** | Change to a fresh token safely. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Only the **owner** of the bot can see or change the token. Never share your token with anyone.

## Turning your bot on and off

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Start** | Turns your bot on, so it answers in Discord. |
| **Restart bot** | Turns it off and on again. Try this first if something acts strange. |

**Bot status** shows if your bot is online right now. You can also start and stop it from the [Dashboard page](/getting-started/turn-your-bot-on).

## Sync Discord commands

Did a command not show up in Discord? Press **Sync Discord commands** (or **Force sync commands**). It sends all your live commands to Discord again.

> [!TIP]
>
> Still missing? See [My command doesn't show up](/help/my-command-doesnt-show-up).

## Your bot's profile

| Setting | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Username** | Your bot's name on Discord. Discord only allows a couple of name changes an hour, and your bot must be online. |
| **Bot description** | The "About me" text people see on your bot's profile. |

New bots start with this description: "Runs on DogeBot. Make your own bot without code at dogebot.net". You can change it to anything you like.

### Display name style

This gives your bot's name a special font and effect. It is **Premium only** and still **experimental**. You can apply it to **All servers** or to **One server**.

## Bot behaviour

**Maintenance mode**: your bot stays online, but it answers every command with a short private notice that it is being worked on. Use it while you fix or rebuild things.

> **Example**
>
> You are rebuilding your shop. Turn on **Maintenance mode**. When someone types `/shop`, only they see a short note that the bot is being worked on. Turn it off when you are done.

## Timed events time zone

Pick the **default time zone** for your [timed events](/building-with-blocks/timed-events).

## Appearance

Pick **Light**, **Dark** or **System**. Everyone starts on Dark. The builders always stay dark.

## Danger zone

**Delete bot** removes the bot and everything in it from DogeBot.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Deleting a bot **cannot be undone**. Only the owner can do it.
