What you'll build

A daily tip that your bot posts by itself, every day at the same time, without anyone typing anything.
A timed event is an alarm clock for your bot. When it rings, your event runs.

The variables to make

None for the basic version. See Make it yours below for a version that counts.

Make the timer

1

Open Timed Events

Open any builder and press Timed Events on the thin bar on the left.
2

Add one

Press Add New Timed Event.
3

Name it

Give it a Name, like Daily tip. This name shows in the trigger list when you build an event.
4

Pick how often it rings

Again and again forever, every so many seconds, minutes, hours or days. The shortest is 10 seconds.
For a daily tip, pick Schedule and a time.
5

Save it

Save it. It shows in the list of Active Events.
UTC is world time. If you live somewhere else, work out the difference first. For example, 18:00 UTC is 20:00 in South Africa.

Make the event

1

Make a new event

Open Events and press New Event. Pick your timed event, Daily tip, as the thing that starts it.

2

Post the message

Add a block that sends a message to a channel (search channel). Pick the channel and write your message:
3

Save and switch it on

Press Save and switch the event on.
See Timed events and the Timed events list for more.

Try it

  1. Make a test timer with Interval every 1 minute.
  2. Pick it in your event and save.
  3. Wait a minute. The message appears in your channel.
  4. Switch the test event off, or change it to your real time.

Make it yours

  • A different tip each day: use Random chance checks with different messages.
  • A daily question of the day.
  • A reminder every 2 hours to bump your server.
  • Post the leaderboard every day: put {DBVAR_coins.leaderboard.10} in the message. See A leaderboard.
  • Count the days: make a Number variable days (Server Specific, starts at 0), add Do the maths var + 1 before the message, and write Day {DBVAR_days}.
A timed event that an event still uses cannot be deleted. Delete or change the event first.
